Cosmetic Procedures and Botox Injections

Botox is a very popular cosmetic product; so much that it is often considered as the very embodiment of cosmetic procedures. However, not many people in Brooklyn know a lot about the Botox injection and its benefits and side effects. Let's take a look at all the information you would need to know before you consider going for Botox injections:

What is Botox?
Botox Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines. It blocks the impulse transmission between the nerves and the muscles, thus temporarily reducing muscle activity and relaxing them.

Botox as a Medical Product
Not many people are aware of this, but Botox injections are also given medically, since its muscle relaxing ability can be used in treating certain medical conditions. Botox is prescribed and administered for treating cervical dystonia, a condition where the neck muscles spasm severely. It is also used for treating muscle spasms in the hands and arms, hyperhidrosis (severe underarm sweating), urinary incontinence and also to prevent headaches among chronic migraine patients.

Botox as a Cosmetic Product
As a cosmetic product, Botox can be used for treating and diminishing the following signs of aging:
• Frown lines
• Horizontal Forehead lines
• Crow's feet
• Bunny lines, which are wrinkles that form on the top of your nose when you smile
• Vertical lip lines
• Bumpy chin

It can also be injected into your neck to improve the stiffness and its look by diminishing horizontal lines and muscular cords.

How are Botox injections administered?
Botox Cosmetic injections are administered into various facial muscles, and the procedure is carried out by a medical doctor in an office or medical spa setting. The treatments are usually repeated on average three times a year to maintain the look.

How much time does it take for Botox to take effect?
This depends on a number of factors, including your medical condition, the area of your face and size of the muscle being treated, the depth of wrinkles, your metabolism and any medicines you are taking. Botox starts showing its effects about 2-3 days after the injection and the full results of Botox would be visible in about 7-10 days.

What are the side effects of Botox?
Botox cosmetic injections is not known to cause any major side effects. There might be temporary redness and swelling in the injection sites, black and blue marks are extremely rare, but if they occur they are short lasting and can easily be covered with makeup. Some people experience transient headaches which are easily relieved with Tylenol. The eyelid drop is also a very rare occurrence and usually never happens in the experienced injector hands. There was also not one report available of a spread of a toxin effect in Botox Cosmetic users.

Blepharoplasty - What Is Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery?

What is blepharoplasty and what are its benefits? It is an eyelid surgery that can be performed on the upper and lower eyelids, or even both. It helps improve the appearance of puffy eyes by removing excess fatty deposits that cause the puffiness in the upper eyelids. This surgery can also be performed on loose or sagging skin around the upper eyelids. This loose or sagging skin can cause vision problems which can be corrected by undergoing the eyelid surgery procedure. Lower eyelid surgery can correct bags under the eyes, excess skin under the eyes and a drooping of the lower eyelid. After undergoing this procedure, recovery is brief while results are long lasting. It invigorates the surrounding area of your eyes, giving you a younger looking and renewed appearance.

Every blepharoplasty procedure must be custom tailored to meet the needs of the individual. The condition of the eyelids and surrounding face as well as your overall health will determine the details of the surgery. Operating times will vary with the extent of changes and the scope of the operation. Typically, the operation is performed under local anesthesia with oral sedation. This means that medication will be administered to make you more comfortable before an injection is given to numb the area being treated. The surgery can take 45-60 minutes for upper or lower eyelid correction. Having the procedure performed on both the upper or lower eyelids can take 90 minutes or more.

Recovery from blepharoplasty is similar to recovery from other facial surgeries. There could be mild aching or burning which can be controlled with over-the-counter pain relievers and cold compresses. There can also be puffiness, swelling and discoloration after the procedure. These symptoms can last for a few weeks or more depending on the scope of the surgery performed. Your doctor will go over the post-op procedure with you as well as schedule any follow-up visits necessary to monitor your healing and progress.

The end results of the blepharoplasty procedure will be improved appearance and even improved vision. The eyes are a very important facial feature and they are also the first ones to show signs of aging. The eyelids are a major part of the eyes and eye surgery can dramatically improve the appearance of the eyelids producing a more youthful and rested appearance. This is one of the most satisfying facial cosmetic procedures because recovery is brief while results are long lasting.

The Truth Behind Dermatologist Skin Care

Dermatologist skin care products are often appealing but the effect they have on your skin is unpredictable. The whole point of going to a skin care dermatologist is receiving something that will work, and work fast. The dermatologist recommended skin care products very rarely use a gentle touch. Dermatological skin creams quite often have steroids, antibiotics, or other harsh ingredients.

Any skin care treatment protocol must provide:

1. A means of regularly and non-abrasively removing the useless dead skin cells and wastes which are at the root of many everyday skin complaints. Get rid of compacted dead cells the right way and watch your skin start to thrive. Just as regularly mowing a lawn helps prevent irregular grass growth (coarse texture, wrinkles), colour (hyperpigmentation, freckles, age spots), uneven wetting (dry skin, oily skin) and weeds (open pores, blackheads, acne), appropriate, effective exfoliation and cleansing are the opening tenets of all meaningful skin maintenance, treatment or rejuvenation protocols.

2. A means of enhancing the skin's declined functions, if any. By the time most people seek treatment, they will require skin firming, immunity re-building or otherwise stimulating topicals to help revert their skin to more youthful behaviour. Women now also have the option of topical skin care which replaces declining levels of female hormones.

3. A means of protecting the skin's functions which are presently trouble-free, and protecting the progress and health of those which are being rebuilt. This refers in the first instance to antioxidant and true broad spectrum sunscreen usage at all times of the year during the day, but also to the avoidance of skin care products not derived from an understanding of cellular functioning.

4. Twice daily maintenance. Just like brushing teeth only once a day still leads to cavities, skin care and treatment protocols which are haphazardly followed produce extremely limited results. In fact, some anti-aging and skin resurfacing programs will produce adverse results if not followed correctly.

Mostly teenagers are quite privileged in that they can seek out a cosmetic dermatologist when their skin starts acting up - which it always does in teenagers anyway. But the costly dermatologist's trip for teenagers should be avoided. The natural form of our skin should not be aggravated by using products containing harsh ingredients suggested by a dermatologist.

The most common treatment that a dermatologist does is a facial chemical peel. This is something that cosmetic skin specialists perform on a regular basis. It involves using a special acidic compound to slowly remove the top layer of the skin and reveal the new skin tissue underneath. It actually helps to clear up problems like wrinkles and, in the case of teenagers, acne. The side effects of this procedure generally include redness and swelling. Plus, the skin needs to be kept out of sunlight while it is rejuvenating itself.

Unfortunately, all that a dermatologist can do is to irritate your skin further. So it's better to use skin care products that contain natural ingredients which don't have side effects and are gentle on your skin.

The Truth About Cosmetic Surgery Abroad

If you're unhappy with any aspect of your personal appearance, there are many types of cosmetic surgery that can correct signs of aging, unsightly dental defects, or "body work" that can make all the difference in your emotional self-esteem.

The stereotype of having cosmetic surgery abroad that existed a half-century ago is now something we find more than a little silly! The old stories about aging movie stars who sneak off to Switzerland to have face lifts may once have been true.

Yet today, having cosmetic surgery abroad is not only de-stigmatized, but is openly promoted. Since American insurance companies and Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) will not cover elective cosmetic procedures, it is financially prudent to have your surgery abroad in a fully accredited medical center staffed with board-certified surgeons who maintain an outstanding standard of care that is comparable to any major medical facility in the United States.

If you elect to have cosmetic surgery abroad, distinguished medical facilities perform many kinds of procedures including dental correction and lasik eye surgery.

One of the most popular cosmetic procedures is blepharoplasty; this is eyelid surgery that is designed to remove the excess skin, fat and drooping muscles around your upper and lower eyelids.

This condition is often referred to as "hooded eyes" and can make you appear constantly fatigued or older than you really are. Having this type of cosmetic surgery abroad is completely safe and effective when performed at a state-of-the-art medical center with a board-certified surgeon.

Another very popular type of cosmetic surgery abroad is abdominoplasty; this procedure is commonly known as a "tummy tuck." It removes excess skin and fat in your abdomen that can occur after pregnancy, after a substantial weight loss, or upon aging.

This is not a simple procedure and should never be performed by an unqualified surgeon or at a sub-standard foreign medical center. When you have this type of cosmetic surgery abroad at a top-quality facility, you can be assured of only the best surgical and follow-up nursing care.

Breast augmentation is one of the most common types of cosmetic surgery. Although it is widely performed in the United States, it is not covered by insurance companies or HMOs since it is an elective surgery. Having breast augmentation at a high-quality foreign medical facility is much less expensive than having the procedure done in America.

Our high cost of living is what drives the price of breast augmentation and other surgeries so very high. Having this cosmetic surgery abroad is very affordable since the local cost of living is lower and there is no tax involved.

There are many excellent reasons why you should choose to have your cosmetic surgery abroad; the most essential detail of your surgery depends upon doing your homework about the accreditation of the foreign medical facility and the qualifications of the medical staff.

TIVA Offers Milder Anesthesia For Outpatient Cosmetic Surgery Procedures

Despite its popularity and widespread use, general anesthesia can cause sore throats, nausea and vomiting, decreased mental function for hours after a surgery, poor pain control, not to mention some risk of serious problems such as deep-vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolisms and life-threatening malignant hyperthermia.

Like patients who undergo general anesthesia, those who receive TIVA still have a complete medical history review, labs, studies and other specific pre-procedure instructions. The procedure itself, however, differs. With general anesthesia, patients can't eat or drink for eight or more hours before the surgery; when they arrive at the hospital or clinic, they are given an IV, which lulls them to sleep, as well as an oxygen mask for breathing. Patients are then placed on a ventilator to assist with breathing during the surgery and are given anesthetic gas by an anesthesiologist. While this is effective during the surgery, after the procedure, many patients complain of feeling hung over, disoriented, groggy and sick.

TIVA, on the other hand, entails medication given completely through an IV, rather than a breathing tube, which immediately eliminates any sore throat issues and also drastically reduces incidences of vomiting, nausea and a variety of other serious issues. Patients can breathe on their own, and they wake up quicker due to the different anesthetic medications used in the IV. Even better, TIVA offers a faster recovery period: one hour as opposed to several hours. This procedure also delivers better pain control with fewer medications. Because it involves fewer risks, TIVA is gaining the attention of more cosmetic surgeons and patients. TIVA is generally coupled with local anesthesia to increase its overall effectiveness and its ability to provide immediate pain control after the procedure.

TIVA is a great option for patients who need to return to work, family life or other schedule commitments quickly and independently after an elective outpatient cosmetic procedure. Many cosmetic surgeons continue to use general anesthesia, however, since it is very inexpensive and because they are simply more familiar with this type of anesthesia from their medical school and residency training programs. General anesthesia is still a good and appropriate option for cosmetic surgeries that are not outpatient procedures.

All in all, more cosmetic surgeons are looking into TIVA because it is safe, effective and superior to general anesthesia for a variety of impressive reasons. Talk to your doctor today about TIVA and your overall cosmetic surgery options.

Cosmetic Surgery Is The Best Option Available

Even though there is cosmetic surgery available, making the decision to change your appearance is much harder than you think. Not only do you need to consider all of the changes you will be going through physically, but you also need to think about the changes you will be going through in your everyday life and psyche. Many people make the assumption that once they have surgery to alter their bodies, then they won't have to do or worry about anything else. Just like there is an adjustment period for major dental work, there is also an adjustment period for cosmetic surgery.

When it comes to getting some work done on your body, you should be careful about whom you trust with your life. Not everyone is going to value it as much as you do. Every professional surgeon is not going to do the same work as another. If you take some time to screen surgeons, you will be able to see the differences in their practices and techniques. This will help you make a better decision about who to choose to do your cosmetic surgery. Keep in mind that in order to get certain results, there are several methods that can be used to give you those results. However, all methods are not suitable for each and every patient. A good doctor will make sure that you know the difference between the methods and help you decide on which one is best for your situation.

Even if you choose to have cosmetic surgery, there is only so much you can expect as far as results. Once you gotten a tummy tuck, though your body will have less fat and tissue in the target area, you won't be able to discern the results yourself until the swelling and bruising has gone down. The same goes for any other procedure you may decide to get. Don't expect to look like a model right after your surgical procedure. It takes some time for your body to recover from the trauma of surgery.

Many patients form their opinions about their cosmetic surgery prematurely. Depending on the type of change that was done, a patient can expect to spend up to several months recovering and getting back to his or her normal routine. During this time, they may have formed very biased opinions about their ordeals. Instead of waiting until their bodies have finished healing to decide if the surgeons have done what they asked, they often look at the discomfort they are dealing with while they are recuperating and form an opinion. If you ever listen to a testimony from people who had work done in the past, make sure that you ask them to clarify how satisfied they were with their results after their bodies had completely healed. This will keep you from making a rash decision and give you a more realistic picture of what to expect immediately after your procedure.

Correct Hip Dents With Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery can treat nearly any issue you have with your body. Whether it is major or minor, there is a solution to your woes. Even something as small as a skin dent on your hips can be fixed with a plastic surgery procedure. There are various cosmetic procedures that you can rely on. But, before deciding on one, learn about all the procedures.

Some women have a dent on their hip that makes them self-conscious. It typically has nothing to do with being overweight, as many slender women also have it. However, it often shows under tight clothes and since not everyone has it, it is understandable to just want it gone. It is actually referred to as an uneven pocket of fat cells that just happen to be distributed that way. However, an experienced doctor can use cosmetic surgery to eliminate it.

This type of treatment would involve suctioning the fat above and below the dent, using a tube called a cannula to remove it. The doctor would then add the fat to the dented area to try to even it out. However, it must be done carefully, or a lumpy appearance may result. For this reason, it is important to find a doctor who has performed this type of cosmetic surgery successfully before.

Other types of procedures use a similar method to even out fat deposits, such as a buttocks lift. The first step is simple liposuction, and then the fat is added to the area that needs it. The surrounding area is then sculpted into the desired shape. Having this treatment performed should give your sides a smooth look no matter what you're wearing.

Another treatment, though less common, is to place an implant in that area. This is much like other surgeries that have been around for awhile, such as breast or butt implants. Tissue filler, often called dermal filler, could also be injected into the dents. This process is similar to a genioplasty or chin augmentation.

If you are not satisfied with the overall appearance of your hips, you have many options. Filling in dents is a simple way to get the desirable hourglass figure, especially if you are not overweight to begin with.

Genetics is usually to blame for hip dents, and a cosmetic surgery can correct any traits you naturally have, but you are not happy with. Simply contact a plastic surgeon to find out what they can do for you.

Plastic Surgery Results Viewed Best in Before and After Photos on the Surgeon's Site

You may look at your own body and dream of looking like your favorite movie star or dream model. It is true that plastic surgery can work wonders on a person's figure or facial flaws, but one must be realistic.

A good way to be realistic is by viewing real photos of patients who have chosen to have plastic surgery procedures. Take a good look at the "before" as well as the "after" because this is some things that need to be taken into consideration when you set your sights on a certain goal of physical appearance.

But remember, though much improvement can be made, one must work with the materials that one is born with. This is similar to choosing a hair style that works with your hair type (thick, thin, coarse, etc.) and is in proportion to the scale of your physical being.

It is a great idea to view as many "before and after" snapshots as you can to get a broad idea of results. Be sure look at people who have had the same procedure that you're opting for, however. Also look at their age, skin type, and body size.

For example, if you are a middle aged, pale skinned, lean man with a weak chin, you'll want to look at pictures of a person of similar stature who has undergone the chin implant procedure.

This will give you a more accurate idea of the type of result you might expect. Don't look at a heavy set 20 year old with a dark complexion, as they will likely have a different result than the one that you are destined for.

If you are a twenty-two year old, small breasted, petite and thin woman hoping for larger breasts, view women of similar stature to see how they look with their resulting augmentation. If you view a tall, muscular older woman who also needed a breast lift, you will not be looking at photos that will produce a similar outcome.

Things to look for in viewing "before and after" photos: same procedure, similar age, similar physique and skin type. Think of proportion and alignment with your existing physique and bone structure. Look for results that you like and results that you don't like, as well. This will clarify what you are hoping to achieve.

Discuss your opinions with your physician so that he or she may more clearly understand your tastes and expectations. It is also a good idea to view photos of patients whose procedures have been done by your chosen plastic surgeon in order to get a better idea of what they offer in terms of skill and style.

But remember, everyone's body is different in how it adapts to physical changes that occur through plastic surgery. Your body is unique and your result will be too. But viewing the photos will give you a good general idea of the expected outcome.

Cosmetic Dentist - Making Chipped, Stained or Misaligned Teeth Appear Straight and White

If your dental problem consists of stained, chipped, discolored, or misaligned teeth, reputable cosmetic dentists can provide a solution to help perfect your smile. With a cosmetic dental procedure known as Lumineers, you can have your teeth transformed into a smile that looks natural, straight, and white. Lumineers are ultra-thin and customized to give you a beautiful smile. It only takes you between 2-3 visits to get the custom-made smile that has proven to last for more than 20 years. This dental procedure is also completely reversible because your natural tooth structure is left intact.

If you have been researching cosmetic dentists to find out more about the procedure known as Lumineers, you should visit a dental practice where the dentist has extensive experience performing this procedure. You want a dentist that has the experience of applying this contact lens thin material over your exiting teeth. One of the great things you will learn through your consultation with the dentist is that this dental procedure is a permanent and painless cosmetic solution for many dental issues and can even be placed over existing bridgework or crowns without having to replace them.

Lumineers can address the problem of crowded and crooked teeth without the need of orthodontics. This dental procedure eliminates the need for braces when this thin porcelain is paced over the tooth and permanently corrects and covers misaligned teeth. This dental procedure can also correct fanged teeth, which are teeth that are pointy and tend to distract away from your appearance. The Lumineers are just placed over your tooth without the need of removing any sensitive tooth structure, and you never have to worry about your teeth grinding down like they may with traditional veneers.

The main difference between traditional veneers and Lumineers is that Lumineers are created from strong-patented cerinate porcelain as opposed to the much thinner veneer that is made in a laboratory. The thickness of Lumineers can be compared to contact lens, which requires very little tooth preparation.

If you are interested in a cosmetic dental procedure that can correct your crooked, misaligned, or discolored teeth, contact one of many reputable cosmetic dentists for a dental procedure that is right for you. You can get the smile you have always wanted, and with many of the advances in dental tooth technology, your procedure can be virtually painless. You can also visit the dentist website to learn more about the procedures they provide.

How to Treat Wrinkles

History tells us that medieval European women drank large potions of poisonous arsenic and even covered their faces in bat's blood in an effort to preserve their unwrinkled image. There is evidence that Roman women used warm male urine in an attempt to exfoliate their skin, but now, commercialism has jumped on the 'wrinkle' bandwagon and turned the ever declining dermis into an industry now estimated to be worth in the region of $160 billion a year. To put it another way, sensible Americans, those people that gave us Kellogg's cornflakes, Gillette razor blades and even put a man on the moon now spend more on getting rid of wrinkles than they do on educating their children. You see, it is all a matter of perspective. Just try relating that fact to the old grey Kenyan lady shuffling along the red murram track with her two young grandchildren on their way to school.

So, what are wrinkles, how do we get them and why do we hate them so. To understand wrinkles, we have to understand skin. Everybody's skin is made up of three layers: the outer protective epidermis, the inner dermis, and another deeper part, (which is not technically part of the skin) called the subcutaneous layer. When we are young, the differing layers work as one unit to allow the skin to stretch and remain supple by retaining moisture. The inner dermis at that stage has an elastic quality because of collagen building blocks and lots of fibres called elastin. These proteins interact to keep the skin looking and feeling young. However, over time, the outer layer gets bombarded with ultra-violet light, attacked by chemicals and the inner layer gets saturated with poisons from cigarette smoke and the ravages of time and the collagen building blocks begin to disappear.

To put it another way, let us imagine two houses in a village in Leitrim. One has recently been built and has become the nest of a fledgling family, continually painting the walls, dusting the cupboards, and washing the floors. The other is the residence of an older gentleman in the sunset years of life, satisfied with passing away his latter years with the odd trip to Mc Govern's local pub. The first house is like new skin, the proud housewife never allows toxins to settle too long in case they harm her children, the proud father paints walls and hangs wallpaper to make their nest as habitable as possible. Both, pander to traditions as old as time immortal.

In the second house, the old man will keep up appearances by painting the outside walls, if the 'yanks are coming home'. This is akin, to the aging lady who wants to look her best for her daughter's wedding. This is because both events evoke emotions that make us remember how things used to be. The mother remembers herself on her wedding day and how times have changed her, the old man remembers how the house looked before Michael left and went to America. Both parties have feelings of guilt, of allowing neglect to take the place of repair. Maybe, it was for financial reasons or possibly, it was just that Old Man time just happened to creep unpon them unnoticed. To understand the mechanism of how skin ages and ultimately wrinkles; we can take the analogy of the old man's house a little further. The whitewash lime paint that the old man goes out and buys and eventually gets somebody to put on the outside walls to give an 'impression of repair to the yanks' is like the putting cream on the epidermis. Of course, it will protect the house against the sweeping rains coming in from the Leitrim braes, but eventually it will just dissolve and be washed away.

The old man knows, if the long lost brother who went to America wanted to return home to the house of his youth, he would have to put in new windows, plaster the inner walls, possibly even replace the roof and the ceiling joices in order to make the place habitable again. By analogy, the wooden timber supporting structure that holds up the roof and forms the windows is akin to the basic building blocks of a protein called collagen, which is present in our dermis. The plaster on the inner walls of the house, that wraps around the window ledges and hides the ceiling spars is akin to another flexible protein called elastin. However, despite this analogy, there is one big difference between the house and our body...our skin has its own built-in repair system. This means if we fall, little repair cells called fibroblasts, come like fleets of handymen from the local village to immediately repair the problem. What happens, is that over a period, the repair cells become less, the timber is not repaired, the plaster begins to fall off, and dreaded wrinkles appear.

What are the main causes of wrinkles?

Most wrinkles are associated with reduction in the amount of collagen and elastin in aging skin. This process, like the decaying house in Leitrim is considered to be a natural process. Frequent exposure to the elements, especially sunshine results in premature skin wrinkling and increased pigmentation (liver spots). Unfortunately, the type of ultraviolet light in sunshine also increases the likelihood of skin cancer. Frequent exposure to cigarette smoke delays the repair mechanism of skin and is one the main environmental factors that increase premature wrinkling of the skin. We can do little to decrease the rate of skin aging, but it is within our power to stay out of the more powerful suns rays and of course to STOP SMOKING.

Common Causes of Wrinkles

Wrinkles can develop because of:
Sun exposure
Normal aging changes in the skin
Smoking
Skin Type
Genetic factors
Dress sense

How Do We Treat Wrinkles?

MEDICAL CREAMS
Vitamin A Acid (tretinoin, Retin-A, Retinova).
These creams are the only ones that have been subjected to clinical trials and show some promise in reducing wrinkles. Retin-A has some limited ability to reduce other signs of aging, such as mottled pigmentation and rough skin. The effects are usually temporary and the creams must be used on an ongoing basis to maintain the effect. Many patients complain about the fact that they initially cause redness and peeling. Although this can be unpleasant for a while, it is essential to achieving an improvement once the peeling stops.

Antioxidants.
There is some evidence that the vitamins A, C, and E, as well as beta-carotene provide a certain amount of sun protection and some formulations of Vit C can help in the reduction of very fine wrinkles. In some ways, they are a step above regular over the counter creams, which usually promise quite a lot but do not contain any of the above substances. Allergan the makers of Botox ® have just released a new anti-oxidant called Prevage ® .

Glycolic acid peels use fruit acids such as the alphahydroxy acids (AHA) (glycolic, lactic, etc.) to remove some of the outer layer of skin. In fairness, these superficial peels can make a very slight difference in the intensity of fine wrinkles and have little effect on deep wrinkles. AHA peels are more commonly used to treat rough, dry skin and improve texture. They may be mixed with a bleaching agent to correct uneven pigmentation. They can be applied to the whole face or to an isolated area, such as the upper lip.

TCA peels use ingredients like trichloroacetic acid (TCA or salicylic acid (SA) to remove the outer layer of skin and penetrate deeper into the dermis. These deeper peels are more capable of removing fine wrinkles. Phenol peels penetrate deep enough to remove deep wrinkles. In general, however, the deeper the peel, the greater the risk of side effects, such as long-lasting pigment changes (changes in skin colour) and scarring. TCA peels may require some twilight sedation to help ease short-term but intense discomfort.

COSMETIC PROCEDURES:
Botox® or Dysport ® are probably the most common therapeutic agents used in the treatment of wrinkles. Treatment is typically used to treat forehead frown lines and wrinkles around the eyes. The treatment only takes a few minutes and discomfort is minimal. Results appear after 3-5 days with maximum benefit appearing after 1-2 weeks. Results tend to last up to 6 months with the effect fading gradually. The treatment is very popular as it only takes a few minutes, discomfort is minimal and the results tend to last up to 6 months with the effect fading gradually.

Soft tissue fillers, most commonly the Hyaluronic Acids such as Restylane, Juvidem, Matridex, or Matridur are used to help fill in wrinkles. These products last between 6-12 months. Collagen was once widely used but is being rapidly replaced by a safer synthetic version called Evolence. This product will last about 18 months. Less biodegradable fillers such as Outline or Radiesse are increasing in popularity as their safety profile shows they will remain in skin without many problems for about 24 months. These fillers can also add fullness to the cheeks and lips and can be used alone or in conjunction with other resurfacing procedures such as Microdermabrasion and laser Photorejuvenation.

Collagen stimulators such as poly-L-lactic acid (New-Fill) (Sculptra) work from deep within the dermis to stimulate new collagen and remove wrinkles. They also tend to smooth and firm areas of the face and restore the skins natural elasticity. This compound, although recently used in cosmetic medicine has been used in plastic and reconstructive medicine for more than 20 years. Clinical trials have shown the effects of New-Fill can last for 1 to 2 years.

Isolagen® or Autologous Fibroblast Therapy is a unique process that uses the patient's own collagen-producing cells, (fibroblasts) to repair and rejuvenate the skin, producing effects for up to 10 years. The effect is long-lasting because the patient's immune system recognises the injected cells as the patient's own and does not reabsorb or reject them as it does with other foreign materials. The Isolagen process can soften wrinkles, lines, and scars, giving your face a lasting, youthful appearance. Best of all, since the Isolagen process relies on your skin's unique collagen producing ability, its benefits are long lasting. Unlike the results of temporary skin treatments, which typically last only a few months, the benefits of Isolagen continue for years

Microdermabrasion is a procedure that is performed by using a hand piece that the operator passes over the skin two or three times. This evenly removes the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of skin. The underlying epidermis is also stimulated by the abrasion and the vacuum. Recurrent treatments promote the generation of new collagen, which thickens the dermis and improves fine lines and wrinkles. It would be unfair to say that it is of benefit to most wrinkles unless they are comparatively new. The average microdermabrasion procedure takes less than thirty minutes, depending upon the skin condition, the area to be treated, and the desired outcome. Many will notice improvements in the texture and appearance of their skin immediately after the first treatment.

Dermabrasion is a surgical procedure in which the physician attempts to reduce wrinkles or more often scars less noticeable by sanding them away with a small hand held tool. The technique is sometimes performed under general anesthesia and the end result is dependent on the skill and experience of the operator. Dermabrasion can result in excellent improvement, but can also produce significant side effects, including scarring and permanent changes in skin colour.

Laser resurfacing is a technique that aims to reduce wrinkles by using an ablative laser to remove the top layer of skin. In essence, doctors can achieve results similar to those of dermabrasion with greater reliability and precision. There are two ablative lasers, the CO2 and the milder Erbium YAG. Both lasers will tend to remove the whole of the outer layer of skin (epidermis) in order to expose the inner layer (dermis). A second effect, collagen synthesis appears over the next months, which also helps to reduce wrinkles. Procedures may need to be repeated once or twice at 6 to 12 month intervals to maximize improvement. They are, however, associated with pain, lengthy healing times, and potential for permanent pigment changes and scarring.

Non-ablative laser resurfacing. Newer lasers such as the Polaris ® attempt to stimulate collagen synthesis under the skin without peeling or damaging the epidermis. This is one of the latest FDA-approved nonablative procedures for maintaining a youthful appearance. Another similar device called the Thermage, uses radio-frequency energy to try to reduce wrinkles. The Polaris uses an associated laser system to improve skin texture and skin colour. This causes the collagen to contract and tighten as well as reducing redness and brown blotches. Data on the effectiveness of the Thermage and the Polaris are still preliminary, but many trials suggest that results for fine lines and wrinkles may approach those of invasive laser resurfacing. Treatment can be painful but there is little or no redness, peeling, or "down-time" afterwards. Noticeable improvement may involve several repeated procedures over a few months.

Fraxel Laser, unlike the other ablative lasers already on the market, which remove the top layer of skin, produces tiny, microscopic areas of thermal wounds in a dot-like grid, leaving areas of untouched healthy skin in between. Patients receive a series of 3-5 treatments, spaced weekly, where the entire face is safely resurfaced. Each treatment takes roughly 20-30 minutes and can be done up to 5 times a week.

SURGICAL PROCEDURES:
Curl Lift ® procedure also called the Soft Lift, is a minimally invasive face-lifting procedure that involves the placement of special nylon threads in a loop fashion and then pulling them upwards. The threads are placed with a needle through a small incision in the hairline and then tensioned according to the degree of suspension required. Threads can easily be removed, added or changed. The entire procedure is performed under local anesthesia, with most patients able to return to work in 24 hours.

Plastic surgical procedures:

Surgical facelifts, brow lifts, and similar operations can be very helpful for selected patients in order to remove wrinkles. The procedures are commonly performed whenever cosmetic medicine can be of no more advantage. The face-lift is particularly useful in improving wrinkles and the appearance of sagging by tightening the skin and facial muscles. The degree of improvement varies from individual to individual, and is influenced by the physical traits of the skin, and the amount of sun damage, the underlying bony structure and a variety of other factors. This operation takes from 3-5 hours depending on what eventual effect is required for the patient. This procedure is performed in an outpatient facility under general anesthesia.

Top Cosmetic Surgery - How to Find a Top Plastic Surgeon

If you want to see good results - the one that you really wanted in the first place - you should look for the best plastic surgeon to do the top cosmetic surgery for you. It is not so difficult to look for a medical expert who can help you achieve the look that you want. However, you might encounter problems in looking for the one who can actually give you the top cosmetic surgery that you need.

Here are 4 crucial factors that you must consider when choosing a top cosmetic surgery professional:

1. Board Certification

A surgeon who you can completely trust to do top cosmetic surgery is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. This means that he or she has had lengthy and specialized training on different kinds of aesthetic procedures. Note that this is different and totally besides the license they have to work as a medical general practitioner.

If you are abroad, check out which authority in the country allows them to work on their patients. For instance, Canada has the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Other countries have something like this too.

2. Experience

They say that the older ones are probably more skilled, and therefore, a better choice for the top cosmetic surgery procedure. This should not mean that you should ignore the younger ones. Three years of continuous practice in the field will make one proficient enough for top cosmetic surgery.

3. Check up on reliable references

This is one of the things that you should look for in a surgeon. It's not the number of people he or she has serviced, really. It's the number of patients satisfied with the job. Now that most of these practitioners have internet sites, don't be easily led with what they have posted there. Ask around. If they are good, you will surely hear about it.

4. Professional Conduct

Most surgeons will be so nice to their patients at first, since that will make a great first impression. However, that could change. Is this an important factor, you might wonder? It may be at the end of the list, sure, but this should matter. You would want that the doctor you choose respects you will you are anesthetized.

Although some doctors won't admit to the fact, the bulk of what you are paying for the procedure actually is their professional fee. Since this is the reality (at least, most of the time), it is natural for potential plastic surgery patients to opt for the cheapest one. Then again, you want a good ending to this story.

Plastic Surgery Pluses and Minuses

Plastic surgery can be one of the best developments and practices used to facilitate the processes of not only physical but also emotional healing. It began with medical procedures and remains in hospitals as a significant component of much emergency care and aftercare scar treatment and surgical revisions. Patients who look to it for medical reasons are able to use skin grafts, tissue grafts and bone grafts to regain strength, function and mobility. The practicing surgeons have to utilize a creative, thoughtful eye and a gifted set of hands and tools in order to improve the quality of the lives that cross their tables or their chairs. On one hand, this is what plastic surgery continues to do for men, women and children who visit hospitals across the country looking for a way to diminish a scar from an accident they'd rather forget; to improve their hand function after an injury so they can continue to play ball; or they won't even find out that their body's form or function benefited from cosmetic intervention because they were in need of the emergency treatment of finite surgical improvements until they have sufficiently recovered. On the other hand, plastic surgery has also long been used to aesthetically improve the condition, shape and size of a man or woman's features or overall body. These uses of the specialty are predominately for men and women who exceed 18 years of age. These patients continue to cherish the advent of facelifts, liposuction, breast augmentation, a tummy tuck, or non-surgical procedures such as injections and skin treatments throughout their lives.

Then there are the aspects of public concern for the dangers of plastic surgery. These concerns are valid for the men and women who seek out a bargain or trust physicians claiming to be expert cosmetic surgeons. Any surgery, including cosmetic ones, comes with risks, of course. When it comes to needed procedures for medical health, one will always seek out a hospital for that attention. But when it comes to cosmetic procedures, participants are, for one reason or another, willing to take more of a risk with their health in order to change their appearance. The risk lies in the doctor's skill level, the patient's pre-existing health and access to proper medical care should an emergency arise. It is critical, therefore, to seek out the best information and the best surgeon with patience and diligence so that the risks are greatly diminished, as is the objective with any surgical procedure, whether the risk is elevated with anesthesia or not, safety is always a priority.

Phlebology and Vein Types

Nowadays there seems to be a medical specialty in just about everything. But while extreme sub-specialties within medicine may seem frivolous or ridiculous, they have taken the practice of medicine to a whole new level. Patients with very specific diseases or disorders that were previously out of luck because their issues were not common knowledge can now go to a specialist and likely find a cure or at least a route of action.

One of the areas of medicine that is so specific it seems crazy that it exists is Phlebology. Phlebology is the medical discipline that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the venous origin. And while extremely specific, the study has created new procedures to help with everything from dermatology and cosmetic surgery to heart disease.

Types of Veins

One of the keys to understand rudimentary phlebology is knowing the different types of veins. Veins vary significantly in size and function. Certain veins are essential for life, while others are more of a nuisance.

o Superficial veins-these veins are close to the surface of the body and have no corresponding arteries. These are thought of as bothersome veins. They include spider and varicose veins which many people seek treatment through lasers and other cosmetic dermatology treatments to reduce their appearance on the skin.

o Deep veins-these veins are deeper within the body and have corresponding arteries.

o Pulmonary veins-these are the life force veins which deliver oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart.

o Systemic veins-the job of these veins is to drain the tissues of the body and deliver deoxygenated blood to the heart.

Cosmetic Dermatology and Veins

Spider veins and varicose veins are an issue with millions of people around the world. These veins cause no harm, although certain severe forms can be painful. But many people feel that they are disfiguring and can cause emotional distress and low self esteem.

These pesky veins appear on the skin due to venous insufficiency which is the most common disorder of the venous system.

Treatment for spider and varicose veins includes:

o Lasers

o Compression

o Radiofrequency ablation

o Vein stripping

o Ambulatory phlebectomy

o Foam sclerotherapy

These treatments vary greatly in severity and in effectiveness. The more invasive procedures may offer more obvious results.

Will Dental Insurance Cover Cosmetic Procedures?

In today's society, it is often communicated that appearance is everything. Advertisers spend millions trying to convince people that they need to have the perfect muscles, perfect hair style, the perfect car or home, and even the perfect smile. Shows like Extreme Makeover tell viewers that if your teeth do not appear ideal, porcelain veneers or teeth whitening will make your smile sparkle in no time. While many assume that insurance will help cover the cost of these procedures, due to their cosmetic nature, little coverage is available.

So are any of these procedures covered by dental insurance?

The following procedures are not covered by insurance:

Porcelain Veneers. A veneer is a thin wafer shell that is bonded to the front of a tooth. Due to the cosmetic nature of this procedure, veneers are not covered by insurances when they are initially put on. They may, however, be covered by a dental discount plan.

Teeth Whitening. Whitening allows for stains or discoloration to be removed, making each tooth whiter. This is always considered cosmetic and not covered by insurances.

Bonding. A dentist can correct a space between your teeth by bonding a composite to the teeth to close the gap. Your first bonding is rarely covered by insurances.

Situations where cosmetic dentistry can receive coverage:

Porcelain Veneer Replacement. For most insurances, there is a clause that requires the company to reimburse for the replacement of defective dental work. There are typically no restrictions with the type of work that will be reimbursed either. If the decline of your veneer(s) has been documented, your replacement will be likely approved.

Braces. Braces are typically covered by most insurances. There are times that orthodontia is an optional coverage that you need to sign up for.

While these procedures are delightful to the eyes and enticing for people that would like to improve the quality of their smile, it needs to be understood that dental insurance will likely not be a tremendous asset to reduce the cost of cosmetic procedures. It is sometimes possible to finance major cosmetic work, such as porcelain veneers, but patients need to be aware of the limited coverage that exists for this dentistry prior to beginning any such treatment.

Why Cosmetic Surgery Should Be Your Very Last Resort

If you're getting older and don't like the changes that age has made to your skin, you might be wondering whether it's time to get a facelift, eyelid surgery or jaw lift. These cosmetic procedures are fairly popular and can be tempting. However, they also come with a host of problems, including cost, potential side effects and complications, pain, recovery time and many more. While cosmetic surgery may be the only thing that can help some people look younger, most people have other options. Here's why you should look at diet, lifestyle changes, supplements and many other anti-aging treatments before you go under the knife.

Cost

Unless you've been in an accident or have suffered disfigurement as the result of a disease or other medical problem, your insurance probably won't pay for your cosmetic surgery. That means you'll be stuck covering the cost of the surgery and any other related expenses out of pocket. Anti-aging procedures aren't cheap, either. The average cost of a facelift in 2011, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, was $6,408. That number does not cover consultations, preparation appointments or the cost of any necessary revisions.

For a blepharoplasty, or removal of excess eyelid skin, you can expect to pay about $2,600, while a forehead lift costs about $3,100 on average. Lip augmentation comes with a fee of $1,827 on average, while an arm lift costs $3,790. For these fees, you can purchase significantly more non-surgical cosmetic intervention, as well as numerous gym memberships, skin protection products and moisturizers.

Complications

Like any surgical procedure, cosmetic surgery comes with a risk of complications. These can include swelling, discoloration, bruising, blood clots and bleeding, infection and dying skin. The area may not look the way you wanted it to; your surgery may produce unattractive scarring, divots, puckers, dimples and other irregularities in the skin. In some cases, you may partially or completely lose your sense of touch in the area where the surgery was performed. Temporary paralysis due to painkillers and anesthesia may occur shortly after surgery.

Specific anti-aging surgeries all come with their own risks. For instance, eyelid surgery may cause a tight feeling around the eyelids, as well as itching, numbness or burning sensations. You may tear up easily, feel like your eyes are very sensitive to light or suffer from blurred or double vision. These problems usually go away; but blepharoplasty does carry a very small risk of blindness.

Facelifts can produce bruising, numbness, dry skin and tenderness shortly after the procedure. Men can often have difficulty shaving and may find that some skin that previously produced beard hair is now located behind their ears, creating the need to shave this unusual location. Potential long-term complications include loss of the ability to feel or control your facial muscles. Some people suffer from nerve damage, while other people develop an asymmetrical hairline after this kind of procedure.

Pain

Since most anti-aging plastic surgery procedures are performed on sensitive areas of the body, such as the face, pain can be a major problem. While you will be under general anesthesia during the surgery, you may experience extreme discomfort after this wears off. For a facelift, you can expect swelling and pain starting the day after the surgery, and may need to take prescription painkillers for a week or two, followed by over the counter painkillers for several weeks. Smaller surgeries, such as blepharoplasty, can be almost as painful as large ones, since they are performed on delicate skin. In some rare cases, patients experience long-term pain, with some people suffering from pain for up to a year after a facelift.

Safety

Cosmetic surgery is relatively safe, but not completely so. If you decide to undergo an elective surgical procedure, you're putting your life on the line. Some people who are placed under general anesthesia simply don't wake up afterward. It's also possible to experience airway obstruction from anesthesia, which can produce brain damage or death if not treated right away. If blockage of the airway occurs, the anesthesiologist may have to cut into your throat or insert a tube to ensure that you continue breathing.

Patients who experience blood clots during or after surgery are also at significant risk. The blood clots can come loose and block a vein or artery, potentially causing a stroke or heart attack. Some people experience sudden drops in blood pressure that can cause heart irregularities and cardiac arrest. Untreated infections after surgery can become severe and dangerous in some cases, making it a good idea to consider all other options before you choose cosmetic surgery to help you look younger.

Recovery

Plastic surgery can be a big time commitment. Having these types of procedure done can take you out of work for weeks at a time and confine you to your bed for days. During the recovery process, you can expect swelling, bruising, numbness and other temporary side effects. It may be difficult to engage in normal activities during the recovery process.

Contraindications

Even though cosmetic surgery is relatively safe for most people, it's not a viable option for everyone. You can't use plastic surgery to look younger if you are a heavy smoker or someone who has high blood pressure. You may also be considered a poor candidate if you are extremely obese, due to the increased risk of death under anesthesia.

Cosmetic surgery is also contraindicated for people who have poorly treated or untreated diabetes, some people with allergies, and patients who have some pre-existing mental conditions. Many medications are also considered risky during surgery and may need to be discontinued before you can have this kind of procedure.

Alternatives

Fortunately, cosmetic surgery isn't the only option for people who would like to look younger. There are many different alternatives, some of them inexpensive and natural, which can produce modest anti-aging effects. They can even boost your overall health. It's usually a good idea to try at least some of these alternatives to surgery before you decide to consult with a doctor.

One of the easiest options includes improving your lifestyle. Simply by taking the time to get enough sleep, eat a balanced diet and increase your intake of water, you could reduce or even eliminate some fine lines and wrinkles. Other factors that you might need to address include drinking, smoking and stress, all of which can make you look much older and more tired. You can even help avoid wrinkles and other signs of aging by protecting your skin from the damaging rays of the sun.

Other natural options for people who want to avoid plastic surgery while taking off a few years include vitamin and anti-oxidant supplements, regular use of moisturizers and exfoliants, and anti-aging products containing retinol and other vitamin A derivatives. For some people who have pre-existing conditions, hormone treatment may be helpful, but this kind of anti-aging treatment can be dangerous if taken without a doctor's supervision.

No one should feel as though plastic surgery is the only option when it comes to looking younger. There are many reasons to make this kind of extreme procedure your last choice. Take a little time to check out your other options and find the best anti-aging treatment for your situation before you call the surgeon.

7 Powerful Ingredients For Looking Younger: Nature Provides the Best Anti-Aging Ingredients

You've been using non-organic over-the-counter skincare products for years when you wake up one morning, look in the mirror and the face looking back at you looks old and tired. You take your old and tired looking face and bundle up all the butt lift, belly fat blasting and thin thighs in 30 seconds a day tapes and chuck them in the nearest dumpster - what's the use? Why worry about your body when you look like a troll? You decide to sell it all and move to the country where you can cultivate a Walmart mentality freely and without shame. On your farm, a bull from the ranch next to yours plows through the fence to get to one of your lovely cows and the last thing you remember is waking up in the hospital because you were gored by an errant bull. Don't get gored by a bull - ditch your old skincare products.

Ok, obviously this is written tongue-in-cheek ala "ditch your cable" style. But now that I have your attention, do you know why the organic skincare market has reached into roughly over $5 billion in growth and still growing at an unprecedented rate? Because people like me and hopefully you are getting the message that the big gun cosmetic companies are not producing products with your best interests in mind.

The more educated I become about the cosmetic industry at large and the lack of supervision and accountability (they have to answer to no one!) the more I have come out of my ignorant slumber and realized they care about one thing and one thing only - profit and sales. Have you ever noticed in commercials for a new anti-aging cream or lotion, the model on TV is like, what, 19? What the hell? Isn't that weird? It's because their crap doesn't work!

I am not going to hold myself out as some kind of "expert" on skin care products because I am not. I only know what works for me. I have literally spent a gazillion hours on the internet pouring through articles about organic vs. non-organic and have, of course, come across a few stating there is no scientific studies to back up that using organic skin care products are better than non-organic. I have to say, at least in what I consider my thorough research, I don't know where they're coming from.

I have turned to respected sources as Dr. Mercola, Cosmetic Database and in particular, a well received study published by researchers at Rutgers University entitled "Moisturizers Spur Skin Cancer in Mouse" study. This report was published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology. While it emphasizes the study was only done on mice, it reports it does raise a red flag for humans.

In the meantime, here are 7 very powerful natural anti-aging ingredients from Mother Nature that your skin will thank you for:

  • Green Tea-Studies show topical green tea reduces sun damage and due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, it can diminish slow down signs of aging

  • Vitamin C - Another antioxidant that can inhibit and slow down collagen damage, fine lines and wrinkles

  • Coconut Oil - Easily absorbed into the deep layers of the skin, immediately healing dry damaged skin

  • Grapeseed Oil - A great fine line, wrinkle reducer - Tons of vitamins here and is good for all skins types, even those prone to acne

  • Soy - Good for uneven pigments in the skin and has been shown to help prevent pigmentation

  • Resversatrol - Derived from the skin of grapes, this is a very powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory and protects the skin from environmental damage such as lines, wrinkles and loss of elasticity

  • White Tea - Only young tips are used to make white tea and studies have shown this to limit damage to skin caused by the sun

There are many more of nature's ingredients that your skin loves but these are some true powerhouses.

Chore: Go look at the ingredients on your skin care products and Google them - Cosmetic Database is one of the most comprehensive and trusted sources for identifying these ingredients and what studies and research have shown about them. This should at the very least cause you to be a little more concerned when slathering on this stuff.

Now, I'm not going to bore you here in this article with "not all organic products are truly organic" speech. While there is no truer statement, know this: the organic market is not FDA regulated and yes, there are just as many harmful products out there with the word "organic" proudly stamped across the front. Forget about that - just look for one of the certified organic labels such as USDA Certified. For a product to earn this seal, they must adhere to extremely strict and rigorous standards.

Anyway, to wrap up, when in doubt, why not err on the side of caution. Good organic products cost no more than regular skin products and to start, this at least can be one area of your life you know you are dong something good for yourself and not causing harm.

Cosmetic Surgery For the Nose and 3D Technology

The nose is one of those areas where cosmetic surgery is often sought out to improve. There is no doubt that many people just hate the way their nose looks and, in an effort to fight off the problem, they seek out a plastic surgeon to make changes that enhance their profile as well as their overall facial structure. One of the problems, though, is that it is hard to know what the result is going to look like until after it is done. What if that wasn't the case any longer? What if you could see what your nose was going to look like beforehand?

Technology Makes It Easy

Some doctors offering this type of cosmetic surgery are not offering a type of technology that displays the ideal nose in 3D. That means instead of using just before and after shots of other people, you will be able to see what you will look like with your new nose using 3D, very realistic imaging tools. This can help you to know what to expect. It can also help you to find out what your options are before you go under the knife.

There's no guarantee that your nose will look exactly the same as that provided since this is still a very personal service, but it can give you a better idea of what you can expect. You will be able to communicate with your doctor about what you would like to change and what you would like the finished look to be like. Is it your nostrils, the bridge, or the tip that is the problem? With this technology, you can be very specific about what your desired final result is.

How to Use It

You will find that some doctors offering this type of cosmetic surgery are using this technology in their everyday consultations. This means you can sit down and talk to the doctor about your desires and he or she will help to make it happen. You will be able to see the changes in your nose then and there, so you can then make a decision to have the procedure or not to do so. Seek out a doctor that offers this type of tool for your consultation. It can make all of the difference in your satisfaction with the results of your procedure.

For many people, cosmetic surgery of any type of worrisome simply because it is a big unknown. What will happen? How will it happen? Will you be satisfied by the investment? With 3D technology, you get to answer some of those questions and you get to feel confident going forward with this procedure.

What Is The Affect of Celebrity Liposuction On Society?

In the world today, many people are strongly influenced by what they see and hear, and most especially in the behaviors they see modeled by celebrities. What a film or television star looks like, the clothes they wear and the things they say all have a strong influence on the society in which they live. Thus, when a particular celebrity decides to get a cosmetic procedure such as liposuction, we expect that decision to impact the population at large.

For example, popular singer Britney Spears elected to get an abdominoplasty (also known as a tummy tuck) after having her second child. This particular surgery is most commonly used after pregnancy or other weight gain and loss, when the skin and muscles of the stomach have become soft and droopy. Abdominoplasty aims to trim and firm the stomach, restoring or improving upon the previous, pre-weight gain appearance. Much of the same effect can be achieved through carefully diet and exercise, but of course cosmetic surgery is the faster and easier option.

The fact that Britney Spears had this surgery affects society in several ways. One, it has helped make "tummy tuck" a household word, and makes the procedure seem more common and acceptable. Two, it may encourage any feelings of embarrassment or self -consciousness in other new mothers, who reason that if someone as beautiful and wealthy needs extra help to appear acceptable after pregnancy, then they must as well. Three, seeing Britney Spears looking so fit and trim even after having to children makes men and women alike subconsciously assume this possible for all women after childbirth, or even normal. The sum total of all of these separate effects is that the incidence of tummy tucks rises.

While cosmetic surgery can do a lot to enhance someone's self-esteem and shouldn't be viewed as categorically "wrong", it is worth pointing out that electing to have such an expensive and potentially risky procedure done just because someone else is doing it is not necessarily the best of motivations. In addition, celebrity plastic surgery can mislead people into expecting more from their liposuction or other procedure than is really feasible because they hear that so-and-so got lipo and they look great on the latest magazine cover. People frequently forget to take into account the extra boost celebrities get from just the right makeup and lighting, in addition to blatant airbrushing and other digital enhancements.

Tips To Get Affordable Cosmetic Dental Procedures

If you need different dental procedures then where do you go? You may not be aware of the variety of dental procedures that each dentist may offer and the total cost to have it done. Apart from regular dental procedures, cosmetic dentistry is the more popular.

If you have insurance you may want to find a dentist that is covered in your insurance network to get cosmetic dental procedures performed at a lower rate. This means that you will need to pay 20% or less out of pocket for a dentist that is in your network compared to 50% or more for dentists that are not.

Of course not all cosmetic dentists charge the same amount for each procedure, so you need to find that out as well. Cosmetic dentistry encompasses a variety of procedures including gum contouring, teeth whitening, tooth reshaping, dental veneers, dental crowns, dental bridges, dental implants and more. The price of the dental procedure depends upon the area you live in, experience and skills of the dentist. The cost of dental implants in Manhattan, New York and Arlington, Texas will vary.

As cosmetic dental procedures are expensive, you want to make sure that the dentist that you are seeing is the right dentist for you. Verify their information online and view the total number of complaints that have been turned in on them, if any.

If you don't know a cosmetic dentist, you need to find one through a friend or other family member that had a procedure done and is happy with it. Mostly you can find one with a recommendation. There are many dentists available to assist you when you are in pain. They work over weekends and in holidays, while some are available to provide their services on an emergency basis. You want a dentist that works around your schedule and is affordable.

Oftentimes people feel a lot better by choosing a dentist that has been in the field for a long time. Its just part of our nature to make sure someone we hire and pay to do a job is someone who has been working in that profession for a long time.

Cosmetic dental procedures focus on the overall look of your mouth. When you smile, you want your teeth to be white and healthy. And a cosmetic dentist can make that happen. Although a cosmetic dentist can perform general dentist procedures, it is best to go to a general dentist for that and keep all the cosmetic work to the cosmetic dentist.

If you have misaligned or crooked teeth, receding gums, decayed teeth, stained and discolored teeth, cosmetic dentistry is the only solution. The cosmetic dentist will provide corrective devices, veneers, tooth restoration, inlays/onlays, composite bonding, dental implants, complete makeover of your smile, full mouth restoration, and more. This type of dentistry focuses on the overall look of the mouth once the work is completed. A cosmetic dentist is highly trained for this profession and will know how to use their skills to make it work.

Becoming a Dermatologist

There are many people out there who want to enter the medical field, but they do not want to deal with blood, death, or disease. Being a dermatologist is actually a great alternative because you will make people feel better about themselves, and you will be able to cash a nice paycheck at the end of the day. But what does it really take to enter the field of dermatology? What is it that you have to do? Let's talk a bit about the requirements and you can decide whether or not this field is for you.

First of all, you need to complete your high school education. Many people think that high school is not important, but in all honesty your career begins here. Make sure you focus on scientific programs, and see if you can work your way into advanced science and biology classes. These will help you greatly on your road to becoming a dermatologist.

You will need to go through three years in an undergraduate program, and then you will need to take the MCAT. The MCAT is an acronym for the: Medical College Admission Test. Those who score high on the MCAT will gain entry to virtually any school they choose, but if you score too low, you will most likely be restricted to a few schools.

You don't want to miss a beat. Apply to medical school as soon as you enter your senior year of college! By this point you know that you are going to make it, and you want to be ready for the next stage of your life. There will be interviews, and people will be watching, so make sure you overcome any obstacles that are presented.

There are always new tests to take, and one of them is the USMLE. This is a test of your knowledge, and it will be presented to you upon your acceptance to medical school. There will be many tests and many trials, and when it is time, you can choose a residency for dermatology. It will take around five years to complete the residency, and it might seem like a rather long time. Think about this when you go to the doctor's office, don't you want to know that he or she has spent a LOT of time in school? After all, this is your body we're talking about!

Once you complete all of these steps, you can choose to practice as a certified dermatologist, or you could apply for work at a private practice. It is recommended that you work at a private practice, or even apply for another residency before you open your own practice. Experience is key, and you need as much of it as you can get. That said, it's time to get out there and be the best doctor you can be.

Cosmetic Surgery Improves the Quality of Life

Cosmetic surgery can help people to develop a much more favourable and positive outlook on life, say experts.

The decision to have plastic surgery is not one to be taken lightly, but if pursued with realistic expectations, the results can have a profound effect on a person's life and their levels of contentment.

But reputable plastic surgeons are always careful to warn potential patients that they must be reasonable about what cosmetic surgery can achieve.

Mrs CC Kat, Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon at Spire Little Aston and Spire Parkway Hospitals stated:

"Deciding to have cosmetic surgery is a big decision, and one that should be given careful consideration. You owe it to yourself to approach it as an empowered and informed consumer."

To set the above in context it appears that increasing numbers of women are interested in having some sort of plastic surgery. And two recent surveys have revealed the growing number aged between 18 and 30 who want to have some form of cosmetic surgery.

In August 2011, Liberate Cosmetic Surgery carried out a survey of 3,000 British women aged 18 to 30, which found that 25 per cent of females claimed to have begun thinking about cosmetic surgery between the ages of 10 and 15.

Another recent survey in More! Magazine found that 72 percent of those women who took part wanted to have some sort of cosmetic surgery procedure, for example, breast enlargement, facial surgery, and also non-surgical procedures for the treatment of lines and wrinkles.

For the many that are planning to have plastic surgery, now or in the future for safety and peace of mind make sure to choose an experienced surgeon who is registered with either the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPs) and /or the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS).

This type of intervention can help you find the self esteem that may allow you to discover new life opportunities. Having the nose you have always dreamed of does not improve your life just by making your more appealing, but also by changing your way of seeing things. A more confident attitude will definitely help you improve your personal and professional life. There are many cases when a liposuction changed significantly somebody's career. This is not just for women, but also for men. It is said that beautiful people make more money that less attractive people.

List of Procedures Done by a Cosmetic Dentist

Cosmetic dentistry is a part of dental science which deals with any dental work that improves the appearance of patient's teeth, gums and face. The American Dental Association does not recognize cosmetic dentistry as a specific branch of dentistry. However, many dentists work as a cosmetic dentist as they are members of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. There are two dental specialties that deal with esthetics and cosmetics. These are known as Prosthetics and Orthodontics. Those dentists specializing in these fields are known as Prosthodontists and Orthodontists.

A general dentist focuses on oral hygiene. Their prime responsibility is to prevent and treat oral diseases, whereas a cosmetic dentist focuses on enhancing the esthetic appearance of a patient. In other words, a general dentist addresses those with dental problems which require necessary treatment, but a cosmetic dentist provides desired or selective treatments. Cosmetic dentistry may involve various procedures such as bonding, porcelain veneers, crowns, gum grafts, gingivectomy and many more.

1. Teeth whitening or bleaching is the most common cosmetic dental procedure. Many kits are available for teeth whitening, but dentist supervised whitening procedure is the most recommended one.

2. Another common procedure done by a cosmetic dentist is tooth reshaping in which some part of enamel is removed. This is usually done to alter the length, shape or position of teeth and to correct the unbalanced occlusion. This cosmetic procedure is known as Enameloplast, Contouring or Stripping.

3. Bonding is a unique process of cosmetic dentistry in which an enamel-like material is applied to the tooth surface, shaped accordingly, hardened and then polished. This gives a natural tooth like appearance of the restored tooth.

4. Dental bridges are artificial teeth which are fused between two porcelain crowns to fill the areas left by missing tooth. They are used to replace one or more missing tooth. Bridges are very useful as they reduce the risk of gum diseases, improve the patient's bite, correct the speech issues and can last up to 10 years.

5. Another miracle of cosmetic dentistry is veneers. These are extra-thin porcelain laminates that are bonded directly to the tooth surface. Veneers are ideal for closing gaps and for covering discolored teeth, which do not respond to whitening procedures.

6. Gum lift is a cosmetic dental process in which gum line is raised and contoured. This procedure is a gift for those people who want to get rid of their gummy smile.

7. Bite reclamation is another cosmetic process for patients who have excessive wearing of teeth. This gives a shorter look to the patient's face and smile.

8. Smile makeover is another magic of cosmetic dentistry. Smile makeover involves a comprehensive assessment of smile esthetics to improve its overall appearance. Typically one or more cosmetic dental procedures are required for several teeth in both arches to get the desired look. Sometimes, full mouth reconstruction is required by patients who can be provided by techniques of cosmetic dentistry.

Cosmetic dentistry has introduced many new procedures and new dental materials. In the past, dental fillings were made of gold, amalgam and other metals, but now dental work is done entirely with porcelain and composite materials, which are much more similar in appearance to the natural tooth. Unlike silver fillings, these materials are entirely free of mercury. Many dentists use these cosmetic materials because their patients prefer to have a natural tooth like appearance.

As the world is progressing at a faster rate and people are becoming more conscious of their looks, cosmetic dentistry has become a necessity rather than a luxury. This is because; it is one special field which can increase an individual's self-confidence.

Restore Your Smile with a Custom Cosmetic Dentistry Plan

When teeth are damaged or worn from age, accidents, diet or other factors, cosmetic dentistry patients have an array of options from which to choose a solution to restore their teeth's natural beauty. Consulting with a cosmetic dentist to determine which treatment options will work for you is the first step in getting your bright, full smile back.

In fact, the technology in cosmetic dentistry is now so advanced that many patients find their smiles looking even better than before, thanks to the use of veneers, dental implants, crowns and other treatments.

Some of these dental treatments, such as teeth whitening, produce immediate results and instant gratification. Others, like dental implants, are a longer process but can be expected to last for several years. Your options for treatment will depend on your cosmetic dentist's recommendations after a thorough evaluation of the tooth's damage, your anticipated result and your overall oral health.

The following are examples of the treatments available in cosmetic dentistry today:

Dental Fillings

Fillings are a great solution when teeth are cracked or decayed. When the tooth enamel is damaged or missing, patients may experience pain and sensitivity because the nerves inside the tooth are exposed. Once the decay is removed and the tooth prepared, the filling bonds to the tooth and acts as a layer of enamel to protect it from further damage.

The most commonly used filling material is amalgam, a silver material made of mercury and other metals. Amalgam still makes many people self-conscious as it is very visible inside the mouth, unless it is placed on the back of a tooth. It is for this reason that many patients now choose composite fillings, which closely match the natural colour of the natural tooth. Composite fillings last about half as long as amalgam and are more expensive, but to many cosmetic dentistry patients, it is worth it.

Dental Crowns

Also known as caps, crowns cover damaged teeth. Using the existing tooth as an anchor, the crown rests over top, hiding damage or decay and restoring the tooth's functionality. Most dentists perform this procedure over two visits. On the first, they will take an impression of the tooth and apply a temporary crown. Once the permanent crown is made, the temporary is removed and the permanent one cemented on.

However, many cosmetic dentists now use computer-aided design/manufacturing technology, or CAD. This allows them to create a 3-D picture of the tooth and manufacture a fitted crown right there in the office while you wait.

Dental Bridges

Bridges are an important tool in cosmetic dentistry. Used to replace a missing tooth, they help prevent further damage from shifting teeth, periodontal disease and decay in the surrounding healthy teeth. While many people feel that a missing tooth is unattractive, few realize that it could cause a speech impediment or alter the way that they bite.

Cosmetic dentists have several different techniques to choose from when using a dental bridge. They might choose a fixed or removable bridge, crowns or resin-bonded, depending on the condition of the surrounding teeth. They must be able to support the bridge; when front teeth are missing, the dentist is more likely to bond the bridge to the teeth instead of further damaging the surrounding teeth by preparing them for caps.

Teeth Whitening

Bright, white teeth are the hallmark of an attractive smile. However, many otherwise attractive people find that their teeth have become dull or stained over time. Smoking, medications and certain food and drinks can all contribute to tooth discolouration. Because so many people experience this problem, there are now unlimited options available for tooth whitening, from pastes to strips to solutions you paint on with a nail polish-type brush.

Even with all of these new options, cosmetic dentistry still holds the best solution. Cosmetic dentists have perfected the laser teeth whitening process to the extent that patients can now expect instant results with minimal pain or even time away from other activities. The results can be quite long lasting with proper care.

After examining your teeth and the extent of the discolouration, your cosmetic dentist will recommend either home treatments or in-office laser treatment. The home kits are also very effective, but require a certain amount of time each day to apply. In-office whitening takes only a few hours. A whitening gel is applied to the teeth and activated by a low-level laser. This technique works well for those who have found that home whitening products cause too much tooth or gum sensitivity.

Other Cosmetic Treatments for Smile Restoration

Your cosmetic dentist might also choose to use veneers, partial or full dentures, or implants to improve the appearance of your smile. A combination of these treatments may be just what you need. Working with your cosmetic dentist, you will be able to determine the cosmetic dentistry plan to best return your smile to its natural beauty.

What can you expect of your first visit to the cosmetic dentist's office? Cosmetic dentists are just like regular dentists in that their first priority is your overall oral health. However, they specialize in restoration and cosmetic treatments designed to improve the appearance of your smile.

Cosmetic dentists often use specialized technology to examine the teeth, present options and perform the restorative work. They may use computer imaging technology to show you what your smile should look like after the treatment. Others use before and after photos to record the full impact of the restorative work for the patient. Ask your cosmetic dentist if you can see before and after photos of their other work, as well.

Many cosmetic dentists use plaster study models to demonstrate what they plan to do to the teeth. After taking a mold of your teeth, the cosmetic dentist prepares a plaster version, which they can then trim and manipulate to show you just how they will do the work that needs to be done.

Others still use temporary dental bonding to give the patient the best idea of what they can expect from the treatment. Using a temporary bond, they adhere composite materials to the teeth, allowing the patient an opportunity to see and feel the dental work before it is permanently applied. This is a very helpful option for those who are uncomfortable with dental procedures or those who just don't know what to expect.

How to Choose Your Cosmetic Surgeon

Getting a cosmetic surgery is a big decision. It entails days, weeks, or even months of weighing the risks and benefits. People often consult their close family and friends for advice. However, the best person to help you out is your surgeon, thus the reason why it is very important to find a reliable and honest cosmetic surgeon.

An ideal cosmetic surgeon is someone whom you feel comfortable with. S/he should be someone who genuinely listens to what you want. S/he gives suggestions and offers you options and respects the decision you come up with. Furthermore, His/her line should be open during reasonable times of the day so you can contact him/her incase there will be a change of plan or something came up after the procedure. To sum it all up, the ideal surgeon is someone who you can communicate with and shares the same vision as you do.

As a registered nurse, I often come across with people who ask for my advice regarding their doctors. When someone, especially Asian women, approaches me regarding cosmetic surgery, there is only one person I have in mind and that's Dr. Kim.

Dr. Ahsup Andrew Kim, M.D.. is the director of Advance Beauty Cosmetic Clinic based in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Kim graduated at The University of New South Wales in Sydney and received his Masters degree in medicine from Chung-Ang University Medical School in Seoul, Korea.

He traveled across many Asian countries to perfect his craft. He very well knows that Asian beauty is intricate, fragile, and unique. Each Woman requires individualized approach because what may look good for one may not look good for the other. Moreover, each person wants different things and Dr. Kim respects that. For that reason, he personally assesses the client and helps them with their decision making because he strongly believes that the key to a successful surgery is open communication.

During a consultation with Dr. Kim, expect that he'll ask you to bring a photo of your desired outcome. This will help him further understands what the client exactly want. Furthermore, he is honest enough to tell his patients that an exact replica may not be possible, but he could surely produce an outcome near to what his patient desires.

Aside from that, Dr. Kim requires his patients to undergo a thorough consultation where he will fully discuss everything from pre- to post-surgery transparently. He'll discuss any problem that could arise, what could be done in case such problems occur, the success rate of the procedure, what to do after the procedure, and the estimated cost.

Everything is transparent. Everything is written in black and white. What more could you ask? Personally, I find Dr. Ahsup Andrew Kim as the best cosmetic surgeons anyone can find especially for an Asian beauty like me.

Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures

Cosmetic dentistry procedures are Dental Implants, Smile Makeover, Teeth Whitening, Dental Veneers, Inlays/Onlays, Full Mouth Reconstruction and Composite Bonding. The procedures are needed by patients mainly for aesthetic reasons. They make the teeth to appear attractive and the smile pleasing. Some procedures produce a youthful facial appearance. They are performed by cosmetic dentists. Modern equipments make the procedures simple and quick and the restorations durable. After the cosmetic dentist installs restorations dental hygiene is maintained as usual by regular brushing and flossing.

Inlays/Onlays

Dentist London performs indirect fillings, also referred to as inlays and onlays. They are made with composite materials or porcelain. Fillings made with these materials are long lasting. They offer a cosmetic solution to restoring decayed teeth or similar structural damage. Dentist London first fabricates them in a dental laboratory and then bonds them on to the teeth with an adhesive. They do not interfere with practices for dental hygiene.

Composite Bonding

This is a cosmetic dentistry treatment for restoring and improving the appearance of chipped, decayed, broken or discolored teeth. A dental composite material resembling the enamel and dentin is used. It is put on the surface of the tooth or inside the cavity. The cosmetic dentist then sculpts it into the required shape, hardens and contours it using light of high intensity. This restoration blends well with the surrounding tooth structure and the other natural teeth and can not be distinguished. Dental hygiene practices do not interfere with the restorations. It results in a smile that is bright and healthy.

Teeth Whitening

This procedure is the most used cosmetic dentistry treatment by dentist in Holborn. Teeth get discolored by food, drinks (such as coffee, red wine or tea), poor oral and dental hygiene or smoking. These substances cause the teeth to change their color to gray, brown or black. The dentist London uses a bleaching liquid to get rid of the stains and restore the natural white color. The cosmetic dentist uses the procedure to make the smile beautiful and attractive.

Dental Veneers

Composite or porcelain shells are bonded with a strong adhesive on the front tooth surface. Dentist in Holborn uses the procedure to hide chips and cracks. Dental veneers can also conceal irremovable tooth stains and worn appearance and improve the beauty of a smile. Normal dental hygiene practices can be carried out without damaging the veneers. Cosmetic dentist uses veneers where whitening can not succeeded and to conceal spaces between teeth. Porcelain veneers are most expensive type of veneers. The high cost can be reduced by dental insurance. Most dental insurance providers do not cover cosmetic dentistry.

Dental Implants

The implants are artificial tooth roots used for replacing lost teeth. Replacement of artificial teeth is a branch of cosmetic dentistry known as prosthetic dentistry. In addition to improving the smile, dental implants also result in a youthful appearance. Replacing lost teeth restores a collapsed face which is caused by gaps in teeth. Once healed you can brush and floss your teeth for good dental hygiene.

Smile Makeover

Smile makeover is done to perfect the beauty of a smile. A comprehensive evaluation of esthetics of your smile is first done by the dentist London. One or more of the above cosmetic dentistry treatments, are carried out for a smile makeover. Dental veneers, dental implants, gingival sculpting and/or teeth whitening may be done on some teeth in the lower and upper jaws to produce the desired smile.

Full mouth reconstruction

This is a procedure performed, by cosmetic dentists, to remove functional defects of the bite, muscles, teeth and bone structure. Dentist London uses quality materials, now available, to perform clinically sound, durable and functional treatments that also produce a natural appearance.

Popular Cosmetic Procedures - Face Lift, Brow Lift, Neck Left and Eyelid Surgery

For those considering cosmetic surgery to the face or neck, a variety of procedures exist to reduce the signs of aging and restore a more youthful look to the target area. Four of such procedures include a face, brow, neck and eyelid lift surgery.

Because the results of each procedure can vary greatly, it's important for a person to educate themselves on exactly what each procedure does and how it affects the final look of the face.

This article will discuss the aforementioned procedures while indicating what type of person would be best suited to undergo such changes to the face or neck area. As always, a person should seek the advice of a licensed cosmetic surgeon for a truly accurate opinion of what procedure is best for them:

* Brow Lift: A brow lift (also known as a forehead lift) works to correct the sagging of the eyebrows which can cause a person to look mad, sad or aged beyond their years. To accomplish this goal, a cosmetic surgeon will remove the muscles in the forehead responsible for the drooping, sagging and creation of scowl lines above and in-between the eye brows to create a tighter, brighter and more youthful appearance to the face.

This procedure is generally appropriate for individuals between 40-60 years of age (or slightly younger for people in stressful occupations or experiencing early signs of aging), and for those that have significant lines or drooping around the brow area.

* Eyelid Surgery: Eyelid surgery (also known as blepharoplasty) seeks to restore a youthful appearance to the eyes by removing excess skin, fat and tissue from the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery is appropriate only for those suffering from bagginess or puffiness of the upper or lower eyelids.

It is not appropriate for those looking to correct crows feet, dark circles or sagging closer to the brows, as this particular procedure will not address those issues.

* Face Lift: This is a popular cosmetic procedure to lift and tone the skin and muscles in the face. It helps to dramatically reduce signs of aging, as sagging and wrinkles are tightened up and smoothed out in the forehead, around the eyes and in the jowl area. To accomplish this goal, a cosmetic surgeon will actually create small incisions in front of the ear, behind the ear and possibly into the scalp.

Through various tightening methods, the deeper layers of the face and possibly the neck are then lifted to create a natural, yet refreshed and youthful look. A full face lift is generally appropriate for those 40 and up, as younger patients can still get away with the less invasive 'mini face lift' for similar results.

* Neck Lift: A neck lift can be performed on its own or in conjunction with a face lift as listed above. This procedure is typically sought out by patients that complain of a "turkey gobble under the chin" or a wide appearance to the neck and chin caused by excess fat. In this procedure, extra fat, skin and muscles are removed to create a thinner and tighter appearance to the neck.

It can also be performed in conjunction with Botox injections or liposuction, to create a more dramatic and sculpted look. This procedure is appropriate for people between 35 and 60 years of age or those with issues of sagging and budging due to weight gain.

Aloe Vera For Stretch Mark Removal

Stretch marks, also called striae in dermatology, are a type of scarring that is caused when the skin stretches and looses its elasticity due to damage in the dermal layer of the skin. This tearing of the dermis is often the result of the rapid growth that occurs during puberty, pregnancy, weight gain and muscle building. All these conditions may stretch the skin beyond its ability to return. At first, striae are red in color and they appear to be inflamed. However, they soon fade and turn into a silvery white color that may not be much different from your original skin color.

The best way to avoid stretch marks is to prevent them and the second best way is to treat them as early as possible. One of the best remedies to treat this problem is aloe vera. Using aloe vera for stretch marks can be very effective.

Many clinical studies have shown that aloe vera has anti-inflammatory properties and can promote wound healing. Its biggest benefit is that it can heal the microscopic tears in the skin layers, without causing the formation of scar tissue. Aloe vera comes in many different forms like lotions, gels and juice. Additionally, many stretch mark creams contain this substance as an ingredient. Even the best stretch mark cream on the market can't be complete, if it does not contain aloe vera.

The ideal way to benefit from a cream or gel that contains aloe vera is to start using it as soon as you observe the problem. This miracle plant has anti-inflammatory properties, which means that it might be possible to reduce the inflammatory effects caused by striae and limit their growth. You can simply apply the cream at least once or even twice per day to the afflicted areas, through gentle massage. What is more, this plant has many other uses. It is a very good moisturizer for dry skin, can soothe skin irritation and sunburn and even reduce wrinkles.

To conclude, I would like to say that if you have already tried using this natural remedy and it did not help you for some reason, do not worry there are many other ways to reduce your stretch marks and you should try at least some of them before you decide to pay for surgery. Never give up and very soon you will notice that your stretch marks start disappearing from your skin.
