Popularity Rising in Cosmetic Surgery for Men

Believe it or not, aging is as much of a concern for men as it is for women. When you hear cosmetic surgery, you usually think of women getting breast augmentation, a nose job (Rhinoplasty) or a facelift. We do not think about men going under the knife to improve their appearance. In our society, a lot of emphasis is placed on how we look, especially in the business world. The desire to look younger, thinner, and improve one's appearance is today's main reason for partaking in cosmetic surgery.

Men are now turning to cosmetic surgery and products to help them look younger and more energized in the workplace. Like women, men have turned to products to color their hair, make their skin look younger and even using makeup to hide blemishes. Statistics show men 45-55 are the most likely to turn to cosmetic surgery as they feel the effects of aging.

Like patients, cosmetic surgeons have recognized more and more men are turning to surgery. Back in 1985, only 10 percent of the patients were men. In 1995, that percentage had doubled. Today, more than 35 percent of patients are men. Cosmetic surgeons have opened their practice up to serve the needs of men. More and more clinics have expanded their services to include hair transplants, chin implants, hair removal and even laser lipolysis for 'man boobs".

Most men complain about baggy eyelids, wrinkles, receding hairlines, excess body hair, frown lines, crow's feet, sagging necks and fatty chest area (man boobs). Hair transplants top the list of the common procedure performed on men. Men also have nose surgery, collagen injections, eyelid surgery, face lifts, ear tucks and chin implants. Laser surgery is also becoming popular with men to remove wrinkles, smoothing aging and sun spots and repair baggy eyelids. Liposuction is another very popular surgery requested by men to remove double chins, "love handles" and "spare tires" around the waste.

Men will also see a cosmetic surgeon for implants. Chin, pectoral and calf implants are used to increase the appearance of these areas. Just like women, men have become more focused on their appearance and desire to look younger. Men claim the reasons for getting cosmetic surgery is to look younger in the workplace and more competitive in the workplace, they have seen the great results from their wives surgeries and they need help losing access fat.

If you are a thinking about getting cosmetic surgery and are a male, make sure you do your homework. Only have a cosmetic surgeon who is properly qualified, trained and specialized and who carries out the operation in a hospital or clinic. Make sure you are realistic with the surgery outcomes, you understand the risks that are involved in cosmetic surgery and you stop smoking and drinking prior to the surgery. If you are taking medication or are overweight, make sure consult with a cosmetic surgeon about the procedure you desire. It may be the case you are not suited for cosmetic surgery at the time.
