Cosmetic Surgery or Aesthetic Plastic Surgery?

Cosmetic surgery or aesthetic plastic surgery is a surgery intended to enhance the appearance through altering the one's body form. Plastic surgery is the correction or restoration of a form or function of one's body. Choosing to have cosmetic or plastic surgery can be a life altering decision. One that requires much thought and planning. The changes made to your appearance may bring you much more self confidence and make you mood better. However there are also risks along with the benefits. You have to make your decisions carefully, know what you want and be fully prepared for everything that comes along with the changes to your body.

One of the most important decisions to make when deciding to have cosmetic surgery is what surgeon to select for yourself. You should choose a surgeon you trust and have a good relationship with. It is important that you and your cosmetic surgeon communicate very well so that there are no surprise, and you are both on the same page. Also some surgeons are specialists and only work one area of the body so make sure you know that your surgeon is right for the task at hand. If you choose a doctor from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) you can be guaranteed that your doctor is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery which means they have certain standards of training.

There are many different types of cosmetic surgery on all different parts of the body. Two of the most common cosmetic surgeries in the United States are breast augmentations and liposuction. Breast augmentations or breast implants surgery is when a prosthesis is used to change the shape and size of the breast usually to make them bigger in size. There are two different types of implants silicone gel and saline. As with all surgeries there are risks involved with the procedure and recovery and also a risk with the implant breaking inside the breast and leaking out. Liposuction is the removal of pockets of fat in a certain area on the body whether it be the abdomen, thighs, arms, hips, or butt. There are also risks when having this treatment done.

Males are getting cosmetic surgeries done a lot more often now then they were in the past. It is becoming more social acceptable for males to improve their appearances through surgical procedures. Most commonly men are having facelifts, hair transplants, hair removal, liposuction, and a few others. There are surgeons out there that specialize their practices around men. The same procedure performed on a man and a woman would have to be approached differently with each sex because men and women gain weight in different places. Also their bodies are shaped differently and the target of the surgery might be different between the two as well.
