Cosmetic Breast Augmentation: How To Find Qualified Cosmetic Surgeons

In this article you will learn what no marketing brochure will tell you: what you will actually experience and feel in the first few days after breast augmentation surgery. Once you learn exactly what you will go through after surgery, you will know what sort of questions to ask potential surgeons. And you will be better at spotting cosmetic surgeons and hospitals that try to "sell" you rather than treat you like a normal person.

Here is what you may experience before and after breast augmentation surgery:

1. You Will Feel Very Anxious Days Before Your Breast Augmentation Surgery Date

They say that being absolutely prepared days before your surgery, you will feel confident and calm. After all, you are (1) absolutely sure in your decision; (2) you have met with your surgeon many times; (3) you showed him pictures of what you want to look like, and agreed on the size, shape, and texture of you implants; and, (4) you are aware of all the risks that are involved.

But no matter how prepared you will be, you will feel doubt and anxiety. Every woman goes through this stage, and it is perfectly normal. Just be prepared to feel these emotions, and know that they are normal.

2. The Day Of Your Breast Enhancement Surgery

What is the best indication that you found a qualified doctor at a specialized hospital? How well all medical staff will treat you. Your doctor, nurse, anesthesiologist should all be very reassuring on this day. They will try to go out of their way to make sure you are totally comfortable.

How can you tell if a hospital will treat you this way on the day of your surgery? When you visit them for the first time, see if they focus on you rather than on the surgery. Are you just another patient? Or are you treated like an individual?

Also, ask what the hospitals procedure is on the day of your surgery. Ask them, "I know I will have a lot of anxiety on the day of my surgery, what sort of things will be there to help me through that?".

So, see what they focus on-- on the surgery or on you? You will know you have chosen a quality surgeon and hospital on the simple fact in the way they treat you-- as a person or as a patient.

3) How Will You Feel The Day After Your Cosmetic Breast Surgery

You will feel like you have just done a very, very intense work out-- your muscles will be extremely sore. You may be bandaged from your naval up to your armpits. You may also have a corset-style bra on top of your bandage, strapped in pretty tight.

You will look and feel like you crippled yourself. You will have very little mobility, and propping yourself up is going to be difficult and painful. And most likely you will have a lot of trouble sleeping.

4. Day Two, Your Bandages Come Off

The next day your nurse or doctor may remove your bandages. And when you see your breasts for the first time, you might feel overwhelmed. You see, a lot of women do NOT want "Pam Anderson" type breasts. They want their chest to look full and normal in their favorite clothes, not unnatural and exaggerated.

When you see your breast for the first time, you may feel they are too big or that they do not look natural. But remember, the day after your breast augmentation surgery, your chest is going to be swollen, firm, and stiff. This will give you an unnatural appearance. Eventually your breasts will soften, the swelling will go down, and they will look natural. Again, be prepared to know these feeling will happen.

5) First Week After Surgery You Will Have The "Post-Op Blues"

Many women experience what is called "post-op blues". They feel unsure of their decision, they will regret doing this to their body, and will feel generally depressed because they are not as excited as they thought they would be.

I have to tell you again-- this is perfectly normal. But I know no matter how many times you are told this is normal, you will still go through the post-op blues. Be prepared by knowing that this might happen, but also know that it will pass!

As for your physical healing-- you will still be sore in the first week. Yes, you may have read that some women have recovered in the first days, but this might not happen to you. It all depends on what sort of breast surgery you had, and on your body and how it heals.

And if you have kids, this week is going to be very difficult. Since your upper body and arms are going to be sore, you will not be able to pick up your kids. The hardest part is not the pain, but trying to tell your kids you cannot pick them up because you are hurting.

6. Two Weeks After Surgery You Finally Can Get Some Sleep

By now you may start feeling a lot better-- the swelling may have gone done, the soreness is going away, and you will start to feel like you are finally heeling. And, if you think you were going to get any sleep for the first two weeks, think again. You will be too sore to lay in a bed. Some women prefer to sleep in a recliner. But in week two you may be able to sleep on your back, and finally get some real rest.

Remember the "post-op blues"? Well, once you start to feel that your body is healing, your mental healing can also start to begin. Every day after your surgery you will start to feel mentally and physically better.

7. One Month After Surgery, You Will Not Be 100%

Even after a month, you still may not be 100% mentally and physically healthy. Because your breasts will heal differently, one may be more swollen than the other. So you will not be ready to slip into that evening dress yet.

But you will have the energy to pick up your kids, you might be able to sleep on your stomach, and you will start to see that your breasts are finally starting to look natural.

8. Two - Three Months After Surgery, Now You Can Wear Those Clothes You Never Could

Though your implants may still feel a bit too firm, your breasts will feel soft and the swelling will be gone. This means you can start wearing swim suites that are not padded, or that evening dress that looks better without a bra-- this is when you will start to feel excited about your decision.

When You Know What To Expect, You Will Know What To Ask Your Cosmetic Surgeon

I shared this experience not to scare you away from breast augmentation surgery, but to make sure you find the best, qualified doctor.

Do not get swayed from all the marketing, all the clutter that tries to get you into their hospital. Know exactly what to expect, so you know what to ask before you choose a surgeon. Remember, the most important part is to find a qualified doctor so that you do not end up with complications later on.
