Questions Plastic Surgeons Need Answers For Before Performing Arm Lift Surgery

If you are going for an arm lift surgery, the plastic surgeon is most likely to ask you three questions before he gets down to the business of actually performing the surgery. We will be using the term brachioplasty for the rest of the discussion, since that is technically the medical term for arm lift surgery. Plastic surgeons will be asking these questions for various reasons. Firstly, the surgeon is likely to ask these three types of questions with the aim of figuring out whether your expectations are realistic. Another reason is because they want to get an assurance that you will be safe and that there will be no complications when the surgery is performed. Finally, the surgeon is likely to ask the three types of questions we are just about to look at, with the objective of making a final decision on whether you are really a good candidate for a brachioplasty.

Prior to performing brachioplasty, plastic surgeons would take it upon themselves to talk to their patients and ask them about what they expect after the surgery has been performed. We have already established that it is important for surgeons to know that their patients have realistic expectations so this question could not be ignored. If the expectations prove to be unrealistic, it is time for the surgeon to weigh several options. He may suggest that the patient undergo counseling until such time that his mindset has shifted and then he could go for the surgery. The second option is that of simply declining to carry out the surgery. If it seems as though the patient expects too much and he is going to be quite difficult to please at the end, the surgeon could decide to refuse performing the procedure on the patient.

Should the information point to the fact that you are safe to operate on, he will then try to ascertain the best way to perform brachioplasty on you. For example, you may have allergic reactions to some anesthetics. If that is the case, he will avoid using those particular anesthetics once the operation is being performed.

The second type of questions that the plastic surgeon is likely to ask, before carrying out arm lift surgery on you, is that of questions touching on your general state of health. The surgeon has to be sure that, should brachioplasty be performed on you, it will be safe and not have any complications because of another health condition you may have. If it turns out that the patient is suffering from another health condition that would not be brachioplasty-friendly, the surgeon has the right to decline performing the procedure since it would only put the patient at risk.
