Botox Treatments - Good and Bad Sides

Side effects are a 'normal' consequence of drug dispensation or cosmetic procedures, Botox injections included. With Botox, these complications and side effects can be minimized by having a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist perform the injections. Botox injections are not like the regular injections doctors have been trained to do and experience doing.

Training and experience are called required before any doctor can give the results you paid for. After all, you're paying for it, so why not get value for money? This you will get only with a board certified cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist!

Common side effects:

Botox and Botox injections for cosmetic purposes have undergone clinical trials which have been studied and well documented.

Side effects are reportedly rare, but not impossible. Commonly reported side effects are mild, like nausea, headache, drowsiness, flu-like symptoms, dry mouth, dizziness, anxiety, and bleeding or pain at the injection areas.

When administered for non-cosmetic purposes, there have been additional side effects to Botox which have been reported, like facial pain, indigestion or heartburn, tooth problems, upper respiratory infection, neck pain, difficulty swallowing, vertical misalignment of the eye and high blood pressure. Occasionally, there were reports of drooping eye muscles or muscle weakness at the injection sites. Whenever reported, these complications were immediately resolved within days. There have been rarer reports of it taking months to resolve.

Complications to Botox injections are usually mild and require no treatment or are easily treatable.

Among the rare consequences to Botox that have been reported are chest pain, eye pain, speech problems, double vision or signs of allergic reaction including rash, hives, itching, wheezing, difficulty breathing or swelling. In the event that you would experience any of these complications, you should contact your health care provider immediately since these may have serious potentials.

Unsatisfactory wrinkle reduction could come from improper injection site selection. A doctor without the training and experience in Botox injections might inject right over the wrinkle instead of the muscle that needs to be relaxed. You could minimize this risk by asking your doctor the number of injections s/he has performed and to see before and after photos of procedures s/he had personally done.

To avoid any complications to Botox injections, it is best to strictly obey your doctor's instructions to the tee, like avoiding exposure to direct sunlight.

The chances of your being subject to these complications are almost nil. Some side effects or symptoms may not even be caused by Botox but another factor.

Be sure to tell your doctor any medications you are on, besides the Botox injection. Your healthcare provider could help you sort out the symptoms.

These are not all of the possible complications to Botox injections. There is still nothing like a candid discussion with your doctor who can give you the complete list of the consequences to Botox injections.
