5 Common Cosmetic Surgery Issues

Cosmetic surgery generally results in a new person in a new body. It can improve one's self-esteem and it can make people feel more confident about themselves, but what happens when it goes wrong?

Make no mistake, even though cosmetic surgery does present its dangers, as do all surgeries, these types of procedures are as popular as ever as the BBC website commented in a 2008 article entitled Brits Head Abroad for Cosmetic Surgery by Tamasin Ford: "An estimated 80,000 UK residents opted for cheaper surgery abroad in 2006."

Breast Implants

Breast implants are well-known for some of the issues which can arise. Saline breast implants can leak and will naturally deflate the breast, and silicone implants are a type of implant which can just slightly deflate the breast but can cause more serious problems due to the fact that the substance can cause issues within the body. However, the substance within saline implants will merely leak into the body and will be excreted as normal.

Botox Lip Injections

As one of the most common types of cosmetic procedure when it comes to the face, Botox injections do have their share of side effects. The main issue is that Botox lip injections can be used to overfill the lips. This can lead to a very comical look as the lips look very swollen and very large.

However, Botox lip injections and the swelling caused is not the only problem which arises from these injections as complications can occur such as; bleeding, movement of the implants, and an uneven surface when it comes to the lips.

Facelifts

Facelifts have a number of complications associated with them. The most obvious issues which can arise often result from the natural healing process. Many patients will underestimate exactly how much swelling and how much bruising is involved when it comes to a facelift. However, these symptoms will usually only last for a few months.

But more serious complications can include scarring, which usually lasts for a few months or may even require additional surgery. Although, the main complication is that the facelift could not turn out like the patient expected. And this can cause a loss of self-esteem, self-confidence, as well as leading to depression.

Dental Veneers

Veneers are designed to make the teeth look better. The front teeth are usually the place of choice for dental veneers as they may need to look whiter or they may need to have some discolouration removed, amongst other things. But sometimes dental veneers can stick out due to the fact that the teeth around the veneers won't look the same.

Another common issue is that patients who grind or clench their teeth may end up causing cracks and chips to form on the veneers; which is an issue since a dental veneers procedure is irreversible.

Rhinoplasty

The rhinoplasty is commonly known as a nose job. A rhinoplasty may be opted for by a patient who wants to reshape their nose to make it look better. The most common complication is that the healing process may mean that the nose becomes misshapen once again. This is due to the fact that the scar tissue may heal in an irregular fashion. If this happens then additional surgery may be required.

The other major complication is that the septum may require additional surgery to repair it; this is the cartilage wall between the nostrils. In other words, most major complications which arise from the rhinoplasty procedure may mean that patients have to undergo multiple surgeries to get their desired results.
