There are several options for double chin removal that you can look into in the unlikely case that dieting, chin exercises and chin wraps have all failed you.
Liposuction is commonly used by surgeons to remove fatty tissue from the area around the chin by draining it with surgical tools. Liposuction on the chin and the neck is performed with a cannula, like a needle which is only around 2mm in diameter. Recovery time is usually only a few days and the moderate swelling and bruising resulting from the procedure usually disappears within a short period of time. Patients have to wear a chin strap for several days to support the skin in the area where the surgery took place.
For those with a weak chin there are also silicon implants that can be inserted to strengthen the chin a keep skin from sagging. This procedure is called a chin lift or chin augmentation.
However these solutions for double chin removal should not be taken lightly and should really be seen as a last resort only.
There are serious risks involved with any kind of surgery that require you to be put out by anesthesia and there are no guarantees that surgeons will be able to evenly remove all of the fat. Some chin procedures can be done with local anesthetics and this carries less risk.
Also remember that the healing process can be painful and if you don't change eating and exercise habits after the surgery you may end up with another double chin just a few months later as your body reverts to its natural state again.
Surgery is not an option for all as costs are prohibitive and most medical insurance companies don't cover cosmetic surgery. Prices for basic double chin procedures are reasonable though compared to other cosmetic procedures, typically ranging in price from $2000 to $5000. Some providers offer financing plans to those that qualify.
Many people are now opting to have double chin reduction and removal surgeries done abroad and incorporate them with vacations as costs can be considerably lower than in the US.
New technology recently has seen double chins reductions being done by non-surgical laser treatment. This new treatment offers much greater convenience and less scarring in comparison to the traditional cosmetic surgeries mentioned above. Using lasers this method is able to melt fat and tighten skin. A local anesthesia is still required and patients have to wear a chin strap for several days after the procedure to aid in their recovery. The treatment is still relatively new and there is not yet a lot of information available about it.
Make sure that you carefully research your options before deciding to go with cosmetic surgery for double chin removal. And when it comes to choosing a physician, make sure that you are in the hands of a surgeon who is a member of the 'American Society of Plastic Surgeons' or another relevant international body.
