Plastic Surgery Can Correct Birth Defects and Reduce Facial Scarring

Plastic surgery can take many different forms. There are surgeries required for the restoration of faces that have been disfigured through accidents, injuries and birth defects. An infant who is born with a large, dark colored birthmark on their forehead, nose, cheeks or neck is at higher risk for developing skin cancer in the future or having abnormal cells grow and develop. The removal of the dark colored birthmark will leave scars on the area affected. These scars can be mitigated by having a plastic surgeon correcting the damage caused by the surgery after the infant has matured.

This might sound like a lot of effort, but the face is very sensitive to scarring. When a child has a cleft palette, the need for corrective surgery is vital to them having a normal life. Feeding an infant with a cleft palette is difficult because of the problems with suction that arise regardless of the use of a bottle or breast. For Manhattan, rhinoplasty is the technical name for a "nose job," which is plastic surgery for the nose area. A big example of the need for reconstructive surgery is when a nose has been completely removed by some horrible accident or another awful event. Domestic violence can scar women and men through broken noses that are not properly set following a break, or through repeated breakages. Replacing bone and cartilage can be accomplished with artificial things like plastic and silicone inserted through small incisions in the mouth or nostrils. This reduces the impact of scarring following the surgery and makes healing happen faster.
