Cosmetic Dentistry - Is it Worth It?

Do you have problems with your teeth? Are your problems just cosmetic and not really problems? If you currently have problems with your teeth, a dentist is indeed needed to help resolve them. However, if you only have cosmetic issues, you should be seeing a cosmetic dentist. Cosmetic dentistry not only uses the science of the old dentistry, but also adds art. This is to add health as well as beauty to your smile.

Think about it, is there anyone who doesn't want his or her smile to be beautiful? There are a few who have a natural beautiful smile, but thanks to science, everyone can have a straight and beautiful smile.

There are some things you should think about before going through with a cosmetic dentist. Let's just list them out:

  • Expense - the procedures can be quite expensive. Most procedures are charged by the tooth.

  • Insurance - does it cover the procedures?

  • Nothing lasts forever - all the materials used in the procedures can still chip and crack once the cement weakens. If you are young when you have the procedure done, you might have to have a repeat within 10 and 15 years.

  • Be Realistic - the dentist doing this is only enhancing things. The cosmetic dentist cannot change the permanent features of your face; all he or she can do is enhance the materials they use.

There is a main benefit that most patients like; the final results are an easy prediction. You ask how? The cosmetic dentists use what's called imaging. Imaging allows the patient to view his or her teeth before and even after before even sitting in that chair for the work to start. It uses a computer to show what everything will look like after the work is done. You may not need the imaging, especially if you are only having a gap filled or something simple. You may be able to see that for yourself.

The two types of dentistry focus on very different ideals. Traditional focuses purely on hygiene, preventing, diagnosing, and treating any oral diseases you may have. Cosmetic focuses on making an improvement on a person's smile, teeth, and mouth.

There are a variety of treatments you can choose from you cosmetic dentist. Let's discuss them now.

  • Whiten your teeth - it's also called bleaching your teeth. This is the most common of all of the dental procedures. There are many over the counter methods, but the recommendation is still to see a cosmetic dentist and allow them to treat the discoloration that has taken place in your teeth.

  • Shaping of your enamel - this improves your teeth. This removes some of the enamel to help improve the tooth's appearance.

  • Tooth contouring - also known as reshaping of the teeth. This treatment is an instant treatment. If you've been told you need braces, then check this procedure out first.

  • Bond - this is where the material is applied to your tooth, which will work like enamel, is then shaped and hardened.

  • Getting dental bridges - this is simply known as false teeth. If you need a new smile and have trouble with your teeth, this may be the way to go.

  • Getting veneers - these get applied directly to your teeth. This allows you to get rid of those gaps or teeth that have become discolored.

  • Lifting the gums - this helps as the gum is then raised and sculpted. It gives you the look that your teeth have symmetry.

Please look into cosmetic dentistry if you are having problems with your smile and your self-confidence.
